XML Sitemap Pro Magento Extension
Having a properly structured and optimized XML sitemap is critical to making sure your store ranks well in Google and other search engines. XML Sitemap Pro from Activo extensions helps you fine tune your store's XML sitemap and provides you advanced functionality to execute your SEO strategies.
XML Sitemap Pro addresses several Magento sitemap shortcomings including <lastmod>
(last modification date). By default, Magento generates the sitemap with the last modification date for every page in your store set to the date when the sitemap was last generated. This is a major resource drag on search engine spiders, forcing them to reindex your entire site instead of just the new pages and leading to delays in your products showing up in search results. XML Sitemap Pro from Activo Extensions fixes this issue and includes other powerful tools.
Features:
- Automatically submits your sitemap to selected search engines on daily or other predefined schedule
- Fixes the
<lastmod>
parameter to show the proper date the product or page was last updated - Also updates the
<lastmod>
date when the new product reviews are posted - New products appear much faster in search results
- Set different priorities for your product, catalog and CMS pages including special case handling for your homepage
- Provides report on search engine submissions showing OK, errors, etc.
- 100% Money Back Guarantee

Configuration
Once XML Sitemap Pro is installed it will automatically change the Magento default XML sitemap generation functionality. For advanced functionality, see below.
Sitemap Priorities
To configure sitemap priorities, go to System > Configure > Activo Extensions > XML Sitemaps Pro. There you can select the priority for each type of page, as well as set up special case handling for the storefront homepage if necessary. You can also enable the automatic XML Sitemap generation and set a schedule for it.
After installing the XML Sitemap Pro Magento extension you might want to go to the Catalog > Google Sitemap and click "Generate" next to your main store sitemap to make sure you generate the latest sitemap using the new functionality.
Submit Sitemap(s) to Major Search Engines
Before submitting your sitemap, you first need to configure the search engines you want to submit to. For that, go to Catalog > XML Sitemap Pro > Targeted Search Engines. There you have the option to add the default set of major search engines by clicking the Add Default Set button. You can also add additional search engines by providing their sitemap submission URL (usually it would be search_engine_url.com/ping=
or something like that).
ATTENTION! You do not need to put the sitemap link in the sitemap submission URL (after the ?ping=
in the above example). The XML Sitemap Pro extension will add properly encoded link to your sitemap at the end of the submission URL that you provided.
Once the search engines are configured you can go to Catalog > XML Sitemap Pro > Sitemap Submissions and click the Submit Now button to manually submit your sitemap(s).
